Land Rover InControl: Your Ultimate Guide

Land Rover has often been a sign of innovation, quality and sophistication. Whether that be through the vehicle’s performance on or off-road, or through the tech that transforms your drive, it’s been a stand-out marque for many years. An area that has taken a great deal of focus recently has been infotainment. If you’ve read our blog before, you may have seen us reference the Pivi Pro infotainment system that you find in Land Rovers built from 2022 onwards.

Before Pivi Pro and its junior equivalent Pivi, Land Rovers featured an infotainment system known as InControl. For those owning an older model, or looking to buy one, it may pay to learn more about the InControl system and how you can use it to enhance your Land Rover experience.

What is Land Rover InControl?

Land Rover InControl is an onboard system that provides the driver and passengers with connectivity, control and safety. This helps to make any journey more fun and ultimately safer.

Harnessing a variety of features, it helps give the driver access to valuable navigational information for a safer drive and gives passengers a pathway to online media, digital TV and more. Three versions of InControl exist, starting with a basic model and rising to a more premium variant.

Combined with the InControl app and various subscription packages, InControl gives you control of your vehicle even when you aren’t in it.

What are the different versions of Land Rover InControl?

There are three different versions of Land Rover InControl. A more basic version that offers some great onboard safety and entertainment features, a middle option that offers a slight upgrade and then the premium edition that features everything from the first two editions, plus a little more.

InControl Touch

Touch is the original version of the InControl system. With an 8-inch screen and a selection of navigation services and entertainment features it offers a comprehensive, if a little basic infotainment system for your Land Rover. DAB radio and high-quality sound come as standard along with a few other features.

InControl Touch Pro

The second generation of InControl systems has a larger screen and adds voice recognition to the mix for added control. All the features of the Touch are included with a few extras to make your journey even better. Touch Pro includes real-time traffic flow, and route planning with door-to-door routing and online search capabilities.

InControl Touch Pro Duo

The Touch Pro Duo adds an extra screen to your Land Rover and gives you all the features of Touch Pro over two ten-inch HD screens. Only featured on the higher-spec Land Rovers, this edition of InControl allows you to benefit from multiple features across two screens. This means a passenger could enjoy streaming a series whilst the driver benefits from the driving-based features.

Touch Pro features predominantly now across the Land Rover range before the Pivi Pro and it contains some incredible features worth taking advantage of. Some will require a specific subscription though.

Features of Land Rover InControl Pro

There are a host of connected services you can benefit from when using InControl Pro. Depending on your subscription, you may find that some are not available. However, you could take advantage of:

Remote app: The InControl app lets you monitor fuel levels, find your vehicle, record journeys and even double-check if you’ve left a window or door open.

Secure tracker: Should your Land Rover be stolen or even moved, InControl will send a message to the app that the vehicle has been accessed without the correct key. All other features on the app will shut down so the thief cannot access them in your vehicle.

SOS emergency and breakdown calls: Should your Land Rover break down or you find yourself in an emergency, a simple press of the SOS or assistance buttons will connect you to the appropriate service and help you resolve your situation.

Connected navigation: With door-to-door routing, live traffic news and places of interest, you can find the optimal route with a few sites included along the way!

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility: Share your smartphone screen with the touchscreen and you’ll have access to all your favourite apps as you drive.

Which Land Rover InControl services need a subscription?

Many aspects of Land Rover InControl come as standard but plenty of features may require a subscription. InControl subscriptions last, in the case of new vehicles, for the duration of the vehicle warranty. They can then be renewed yearly. It’s worth noting that they are tied to the vehicle, not the owner. So, if you sell your Land Rover part-way through a subscription, the new owner will benefit from the service.

Current features that require a valid InControl subscription include:

  • Land Rover Optimised Assistance
  • Land Rover Emergency Call
  • Real-Time Traffic Information
  • Live Search
  • Fuel Pricing (where supported)
  • Parking Availability (where supported)
  • Safety camera locations (where supported)
  • Live Apps (where supported)

How many Land Rover InControl subscriptions are there?

There are a variety of Land Rover InControl subscription options you could take advantage of. Each offers something a little different. You can choose from:

InControl Remote/Protect: This is the service that helps you control aspects of your vehicle from your smartphone and have access to the SOS/assistance features among many others. This currently costs £40 per year.

InControl Remote and Secure: The next level up gives you the benefits of InControl Remote but also adds live monitoring should your vehicle be stolen. The Land Rover website currently states that this subscription costs £260.

Connected Navigation: Should you want to add the navigation system that also incorporates an entire suite of connectivity features such as Wi-Fi hotspot and live search you’ll need to pay £89 per year but you can get three years for £129.

What Land Rovers have InControl?

Many models offer InControl although more recent editions now feature the newer Pivi or Pivi Pro infotainment system. You’ll find InControl in one of its three variations in the following models:

Range Rover Evoque (pre-2020)

Discovery (pre-2020)

Discovery Sport (pre-2020)

Range Rover (pre-2021)

Range Rover Sport (pre-2022)

Range Rover Velar (pre-2020)

The InControl system has now been replaced by Pivi Pro but for the models we’ve listed above, it is still the default and frankly excellent infotainment system. Working alongside the app, it provides owners with added security as well as a host of entertainment features.
